Jumping in Tangier
- Tangier, Morocco
We love relocation cruises, a.k.a. one way cruises. Most of them are transatlantics, for ships that spend the summer in Europe and the winter in Florida doing weekly Caribbean cruises. So whenever another kind of relocation cruise comes up, we jump (haha) on it. Last year it was Dubai to Singapore, and this year, Barcelona to Cape Town.
Our ship was Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas. It was actually going all the way to Australia, via Singapore, to spend the European winter (the Australian summer) there. We would have loved to stay on board until the end, but hey, we're mere mortals who need to work sometimes.
Our first port of call was Tangier, in Morocco. The ship docked right in the city centre, so we could walk straight into town. Tangier is very hilly, and getting to the top was quite a workout, but it made for a great jump with a view of Voyager.
We had booked a walking food tour, but we were a bit early, so we wandered around first. We stopped by the Grand Socco, Tangier's main square, surrounded by cafΓ©s, shops and lots of cats.
The food tour was a lot of fun. We had traditional coffee, visited the fish, meat and spice markets, ate delicious fish and seafood for lunch and finished with Moroccan pastries. On our walk back down to the ship, it started pouring and we got totally soaked.
