Jumping in Gran Canaria
- Gran Canaria, Spain
After Tangier, our next port of call was Gran Canaria, one of Spain's Canary Islands. It was my first time there. J. had been 20 years before but didn't remember much about it.
We had booked a hike to the centre of the volcanic island with Royal Caribbean, in a group of about a dozen people. The hike was rated "strenuous", but we knew Royal Caribbean tends to be overly cautious, probably because a lot of cruisers are older. It was totally manageable, and J. got to enjoy the barefoot hiking shoes she had bought a few days before.
The hike lasted about 4 hours, the landscapes were stunning and the weather just perfect. We saw some birds of prey and got to learn a bit about the island and the local culture. Our group turned out to be a nice bunch of happy chaps of all ages, from all around the world, and we all enjoyed the experience together.
At the end, we had a hearty lunch in a local restaurant in a small village, before heading back to Las Palmas, where the ship was docked.
