After an incredible time in the Shetlands, we returned our rental at Edinburgh Airport and took a train to Glasgow, where we stayed a couple of days. I really liked Glasgow, at least with the nice weather we had. They called it a heat wave, as it was almost 22ยฐC during the day ๐.
I had decided I would get myself a ukulele and start learning how to play. It's like a guitar, but smaller and simpler. It pleased both the creative and the "keep it simple" parts of my brain. We had tried to go to the music shop I had found online the day before but had to abort after getting surrounded by hundreds of inebriated football supporters celebrating Celtic's (Glasgow football team, sporting an Irish flag somehow) 5-0 victory against Aberdeen. Of course, the celebration had to happen right in front of the music shop. The area was in lockdown, and we couldn't reach the shop.
Finally, back at guitarguitar the next day, we were allowed in as the supporters had gone home. We met with a few jolly lads who let me try all the ukuleles and taught me a chord or two. I decided to go with the Alvarez Concert AU90C โ made in China, like any other in this price range (ยฃ149) โ but I liked its sound and look. Sadly, they didnโt have a bag for Alvie but at least provided me with a box.
Back at the hotel, I started learning the basics of "Over the Rainbow" chords with Alvie, because what else can you play on a ukulele anyway? By the time I was done, my fingertips were hurting like hell, which must have meant I did good training. We had a drink at the Hilton lounge before heading to Topolabamba, a Mexican-inspired resto. The food was quite good, but damn, ยฃ110! Inflation has hit the UK hard.
