The original plan was to take a train from Kuala Lumpur to Railay Beach, south of Thailand, to spend a few days on one of the paradisiacal beaches of the area. But by the time we checked the train timetable to make a booking, there was nothing decent available anymore.
We ended up taking a short AirAsia flight to Krabi. From there, we took a bus to Krabi city center and then a tuk-tuk to Ao Nang on the beachfront.
Railay Beach is not an island; it is on the mainland. However, there are no roads to get there, as a steep hill blocks the way. Therefore, from Ao Nang, we took a long-tail boat to Railay, as it was the only way to get there. After a short ride, we arrived at the beach. It took us a good 1-2 hours to find the hotel we had booked (including the coffee break), but we finally did it; it was on the opposite beach.
Railay is very small, and you soon know most of the people around, especially after hanging out at the trendy bars on the beach.
