The Panama Canal, such a mythical place ! Well actually… it much smaller that I expected 🙂
You can see a Russian yellow boat the back in a locks, on its way to the Pacific Ocean.
After Miami we headed down to Panama (we had to catch a plane that time, no boat anymore). Panama City really feels like the carrefour of different worlds: it cuts the american continent into two and makes the link between the Atlantic Ocean from the Pacific Ocean. And it’s a great feeling to be there.
In Panama City, we stayed at the Villa Vento Surf, a very nice hostel in the center. Especially very nice since it had it’s own swimming pool that made it a great jumping spot !
So the annual holidays had finally came !! After the Trans-Siberian trip the previous year, this year’s idea was to go West avoiding the plane as much as possible.
It started with a Transatlantic trip from Barcelona to Miami on board the Norwegian Epic ship, a brand new and huge ship, the 3rd biggest in the world.
First stop of the journey: Ponta Delgada for the Portuguese Azores Islands !
After, le Mont-Saint-Michel, time for sunny* Saint-Malo ! Charming medieval coastal city where your addiction for crepes (pancakes) and cider can be fulfilled beyond your craziest dreams.
* A weekend in Brittany without any rain ? You can’t be serious. Actually, on the last day, the rain caught us up just in the middle of a run to catch the last train from Saint Malo to Rennes.
A huge thanks to the SNCF staff onboard the train that delayed departure to allow us to get in (and kuddos to the passengers of the coach applauding once we were on board with our sorry faces, exhausted and wet like if we had jumped into a swimming pool !)
